Young Entrepreneur Problems

Filed under: Business, Entrepreneurship, Rants — saadh @ 7:36 pm

For the past few days I’ve been avidly reading any entrepreneur blog I can find from the Mind Petals network and through the blogrolls of those respected entrepreneurs. There is a general problem that lingers with most of these youths though.

All of these young entrepreneurs seem to not be in it for the long haul, even if they think they might be. All of them have very creative minds and think of neat ideas all the time. As much as we don’t want to admit it, most of these ideas never succeed. So, what should all of these aspiring youths do?

I think all aspiring young entrepreneurs should focus in and learn the ins and outs of internet marketing. All it takes is one to three hours a day of reading through various blogs, magazines, and forums. After a bit of time your knowledge will be varied and diverse. A good example would be someone who is in college and if he stuided internet marketing and other things related to that, what could he become an ‘expert’ in?

  • Programming. After learning html, you can master html with css. After a while, many people will notice the power of PHP and javascript. Relying on other people only works so much. Although it is very possible to never learn to code, coding PHP on your own will help. Learning the basics of PHP and HTML can be as simple as buying two or three books from your local Barnes & Nobles.
  • Search engine optimization. SEO will teach you how to rank well for search engines, primarily google. All this takes is reading the leading forums and blogs. Some of them are: digital point, high rankings, v7n forums, seomoz blog, seobook blog, and matt cutts blog.
  • E-commerce. After a bit of time, you can take a small risk and try out the eBay game. If it works out for you, then thats awesome. It would probably be best for all aspiring entrepreneurs to at least get your feet wet in this field.
  • CPC and affiliate programs. By making content sites and focusing on them, along with SEO, you will learn the ins and outs of getting money through programs like Adsense and affiliate programs. This can be a very good stable income.

All of these different topics will make you a diverse businessman for the internet generation and more confident as well. All of the bullets above lead to other skills as well. Things like SEO teach you the basics of analysis because you need to follow trends of search engines. If you were to sit down and think of how all of the skills above connect to other skills, you could go on for a while.

Vgescape Update 1.0

Filed under: Business, Entrepreneurship, Web Empire — saadh @ 7:32 pm

I’ll be doing a Vgescape update every week or so from now on. Major improvements from July 10, 2006 to July 17, 2006: - Added border and images on top of the horizontal adsense banners. Follows TOS becuase of border - Added images next to ads to the left, follows TOS because of border. - Border matches each console. - All the images rotate through a php scrpt thqat chooses from many different images available. All seperated for each console as well. - Added site-wide 12 affiliates. Another 5 affiliate requests in the work. INCOME Income has gone up like crazy. Affiliate links began kicking in around the 14th and the images were implemented on the 15th. Therefore, that is where the spike in revenue comes from. Don’t think that revenue is steadily dropping though. The revenue for July 17th still has 8 hours to go (they update from Pacific Time).

Hosting Improvements, and $$$ Spending

Filed under: Business, Entrepreneurship — saadh @ 7:31 pm

Hosting Improvements

I’ve been having a lovely hosting experience over at powervps.com. I’ve been on a reseller account with a few extra IP’s and extra disk space for the past few months. My dad has asked me to host him because he thought I was already on a VPS server. Therefore, I thought it might be a good idea to switch over anyway.

The cost will be an additional 22.50$ per month, but I can now order a few more IP’s, and I’m getting 100$ / year from my dad, which equates to just over 8$ / month by hosting his domains and sites, which don’t take up more than 50 mb.

With quite a few different IP’s and my SEO experiment of creating a network of 100 mini video game sites, in addition to the other 10 sites I have, this should be a nice investment, even if its /month out of my pocket.

So, starting in August 2006, current monthly payments relating to the sites:

- 20$ /month for an automated directory submission service.
- 56.50$ /month for VPS hosting.
+ 8.33$ /month for hosting dad.
————–
- 68.17$ /month

SEO Experiment Update 1.0

So, the SEO experiment of my 100 mini video game sites will begin soon. Major problem I’ve been having is that I have cash on me and some money in paypal, but alot is scattered around. Parents want nothing to do with me financially. Two days ago, I finally got my brother to allow me to use his credit card. 500 Canadian Dollar limit though.

So, when some of his money clears up from the CC, I’ll be ordering my first 62 domains. About two of those are not for the 100 mini sites. I’ll be buying the other 40 or so domains soon. I need to find more keywords and niches :)

SEO Experiment Brainstorming

Yay! Like many aspiring SEO’ers, I am going to begin my first official SEO Experiment.

What will I be doing? Focusing in on my niche expertise (video games), I am going to see the difference of search engine rankings (particularly google) for small keywords between an established, respected website (Vgescape.com), and many new domain’s, which have the keywords in their domain. Each of these small sites will range from one page to a maximum of seven pages.

Most of the new sites will be set up by August 1st. Most of my major marketing for all of the sites will be done by September 1st.

The experiment should prove very interesting, but it is a big risk. A domain costs approximately 7.00$. All my income comes from Vgescape so I am already on a limited budget.

How many domains will I be buying? Well, there are five consoles I cover, Xbox 360, PS3, PSP, DS, and Wii. Say, by September 1, I purchase an average of 15 domains per console? That is 15 x 5 x 7 = 525$.

Then you have to factor in all the annoying hosting problems I will have to go through with the 75 new sites.

Nonetheless, by October 1, if even 10% of them can rank decently, and take in 1500 uniques a month, with the other 90% averaging 150 uniques a month, this still ends up with a total of about 22,000 uniques a month in total. That would equal out to about 0 a month.

Well, we’ll see. I’ll post up a static page for this experimental project soon.

Today’s To-Do List

Filed under: Business, Entrepreneurship, Daily Bits — saadh @ 7:28 pm

At first I wasn’t going to do this because I can never follow up on what I plan, but I thought it would be a better idea to write out what I want to accomplish each day so I stay focused:

  • Read up on 301 redirecting
  • Change address of all /nintendo-revolution pages of vgescape to /nintendo-wii
  • 301 Redirect all the old revolution pages to wii pages.
  • Pray my search engine rankings for wii don’t go down the drain.
  • Create a 3×3 table and interlink all themed pages of Vgescape for better user navigation (meaning repeat the same process over 50 times)
  • Add new news and updates to Vgescape to make it look as if its always been updated!
  • Fix up all five consoles specs, faqs, release dates, and controllers pages
